Odyssey
The Odyssey was the worlds first home video game console designed by Ralph H. Baer. It was released in August of 1972 at a retail price of $99 USD. It came with 6 game cards that worked more like jumpers than cartridges since they had no components attached to them. The games where played using several overlays that covered the TV screen , poker chips , dice, play money and score sheets, There was no sound although Baer proposed a sound extension but Magnavox rejected his idea.
The original prototype AKA the Brown Box is on display in the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.
