The Virtual Boy was released on August 14, 1995 in US at a retail price of $180.00 USD. Nintendo marketed it as the first portable virtual reality console capable of displaying true 3D video graphics out of the box. Due to it's commercial failure, high price and awkward game play is was only released in Japan and the USA, had continued price drops and only lasted in the market for a year before being discontinued.
